She is known as one of the top ranked female poker players in the world (a 3-time Bluff Reader's Choice Awards nominee for Favorite Female Poker Player) and for competing on the 15th season of The Amazing Race. While researching The Biggest Bluff, Maria became an international poker champion and the winner of over $300,000 in tournament earnings. Maria's writing has been featured in Best American Science and Nature Writing and has been translated into over twenty languages.
